Hydrogen valleys are ecosystems in which the production and consumption of hydrogen is facilitated at the local level
More than 100 leaders are meeting these days in Egypt on the occasion of the International Climate Summit. On the table: how to fight climate change. And, among the measures adopted, COP27 has approved the construction of 100 hydrogen valleys that will favor fuel cell cars.
COP27 is an international event in which the leaders of the major powers debate what can be done to prevent the planet’s temperature from continuing to rise. Transport is having a special weight in this edition; hence some of the many measures being taken at the Summit have an impact on drivers.
End of combustion cars worldwide
The United Nations Summit is talking about the creation of net zero factories (which minimize their emissions with the use of renewable energies and compensate for the inevitable ones); the development of technologies for the manufacture of environmentally friendly steel; the promotion of clean fuels; and the reuse of electric car batteries for domestic purposes.
To advance in the energy transition, it has also been confirmed that 2040 will be the last year in which combustion engines are manufactured worldwide; while in Europe it will be five years earlier (Spain has joined the Accelerate to Zero coalition that promotes this measure). Although this target is not binding for all countries that are part of the UN (193 in total).
100 hydrogen valleys
Another of the measures approved by the countries that add up to more than half of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) at COP27 is the construction of at least 100 hydrogen valleys.
Hydrogen valleys are ecosystems in which the consumption and production of hydrogen is encouraged locally. This molecule has many uses and hopes to be key in the transition to the use of clean energy in transport.
The ban on diesel and petrol engines must be accompanied by an increase in the supply of zero-emission vehicles; Hence, more and more manufacturers are betting on renewable hydrogen as a fuel.
The decision of the world forum on the environment will undoubtedly be a boost that will lower costs and expand hydrogen refueling stations, two key points for the popularization of fuel cell cars.
