Incineration and waste in the EU: quantities and destinations. Zero Waste Europe.

This study seeks to understand the amount of waste generated by waste incineration in the EU and what happens to that waste, in particular, how much waste can be landfilled.

Although the report focuses on incineration, it seeks to understand the amount of waste from both incineration and co-incineration by considering ‘all waste’. The Industrial Emissions Directive distinguishes them according to whether it is a plant ‘dedicated to the thermal treatment of waste’ (incineration) or an installation whose main purpose is the generation of energy or the production of material products (co-incineration).
