Renewable Capacity Statistics 2021

According to the report, published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the economic crisis associated with the pandemic has not prevented renewable energies from growing by 50% in 2020 compared to the previous year. More than 80% of new electrical capacity added last year was renewable, with solar and wind power accounting for 91% of renewables. China, the European Union and the United States have been the countries with the most outstanding growth in renewables in 2020. Specifically, China consolidates its position as the world leader in renewables, with more than double the electrical power in renewables than in the EU and the United States combined.
