Air pollution costs of European industrial facilities 2008-2017

This report produced by the European Topic Center on Air Pollution, Transport, Noise and Industrial Pollution, of the European Environment Agency (EEA), assesses in monetary terms the cost of damage to health and the environment caused by air pollutant emissions from industrial facilities officially notified to the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR). The aggregate cost of damage caused by emissions reported by E-PRTR industrial facilities is estimated to have decreased between 2008 and 2017, with reductions over the period of 54% for major air pollutants, 19% for greenhouse effect, 43% for heavy metals. and 60% organic contaminants. It is noted that the damage estimated in this report is lower than the total caused by the total emissions of the countries studied, since not all facilities are required to report to the E-PRTR.
