The Government prepares a decree to regulate electric recharging points

Teresa Ribera understands the citizen complaints about the lack of ‘electrolineras’.

The Government is preparing a royal decree to regulate the deployment, maintenance and management of electric recharging points in Spain, as announced on Thursday in ‘NEF Online’ the fourth vice president and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera.

In this meeting organized electronically by Nueva Economía Fórum, Ribera explained that the decree will seek to regulate these facilities in a “more stable” way because “it cannot be allowed” that citizen complaints about the lack of these facilities continue.

“This summer I have received 300 or 400 messages from citizens concerned because the charging points are not always fully available,” revealed the vice president, who stressed that this need to enhance the ‘electrolineras’ becomes more pressing in view of the demand for electric cars that has “skyrocketed” with the Moves Plan and the “boom” that will be in the coming months.

Consumer Statute

The vice president confirmed that the Government will present in October the Statute of the Electrointensive Consumer. On this rule, he said that its presentation has been delayed due to the complicated scenario derived from the coronavirus and with a European Commission that “has supervised and observed very closely” the elaboration of the article, because it says that it is necessary “to be very careful with the rules of the internal market and competition law”.

Asked about the special treatment requested by hyper-energy consuming industries, she said that no one disputes that until these companies evolve to a use of only renewable energy, “they need an accompaniment, but without anyone doubting fairness and respect for the rules of competition.”

At the meeting, Ribera said that the Executive is about to send a green infrastructure plan to public consultation and in the coming days will present the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change 2021-2030, to which he pointed out that some 1,500 allegations have been presented in the public hearing.

In terms of energy, the minister said that thanks to the growth of renewables, the Government calculates that Spain will reach a convergence of prices with countries such as Germany and France in 2023 and from that date it will have them even cheaper.
