Ribera estimates that in three years the price of electricity will be equal to that of France or Germany

The Vice President for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, said on Thursday that she expects the Spanish electricity system to reach in 2023 the price levels registered by France and Germany, and even lower them even more from that year.

All this, he said, thanks to the greater weight of renewable energies in the system, which “forces to accelerate the process of changing auctions” and thus “capture all this benefit”.

This was stated in his telematic intervention at the breakfast of The New Economy Forum, in which he called for reflection on the effects and use of “a good network system, access and connection”, the digitalization of access and an “intelligent” network and the participation of “many more actors”.

The “intelligent” management of access data is part, he added, of “challenges that perhaps have more to do with the medium term, but have to be captured today”, as well as “the great technologies” of the energy system of the future and a greater and better storage capacity.

HYDROGEN, “A TRAIN WE CANNOT MISS”

Regarding new technologies, he has proposed “moving from a carbon economy to an economy perhaps of hydrogen” that, he said, “should be of renewable origin”, for which he considers that “Spain is well placed geographically”. “It’s a train we can’t miss,” he said.

In this sense, he said that the petrochemical industry is already postulated as a final consumer of this energy, but has influenced the need to propose its extension to other sectors such as transport.
