Biomass is defined as vegetation that forms ecosystems, sequesters carbon, and provides food and raw materials for a wide range of materials used in sectors such as construction, energy, transportation, furniture, and textiles. The same type of biomass can have multiple end-uses. This report highlights the challenges, co-benefits and trade-offs that need to be understood and quantified if biomass is to help achieve the European Green Deal.
