The environment in Europe: State and prospects 2020 (SOER 2020)

The European Environment Agency (EEA) publishes the 6th SOER report that identifies serious gaps between the state of the environment and current short- and long-term EU policy objectives. The messages from the SOER 2020 assessment of recent trends and insights are clear: policies have been more effective in reducing environmental pressures than in protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, and the health and well-being of people. Despite the successes of European environmental governance, problems remain and the outlook for the environment in Europe over the coming decades is bleak.
