The program’s mission is to improve understanding of the ocean as a changing sink for CO2. The programme has identified five priority areas: Evolution of the ocean carbon sink, the changing role of biology in the ocean carbon cycle, carbon exchanges, the impact of ocean industrial processes on the ocean carbon life cycle, and future changes in the carbon cycle arising from climate interventions.
