The EU must dramatically accelerate the clean energy transition and rapidly reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The EU has set out its plans to achieve these objectives by diversifying energy imports and reducing gas consumption. Emergency measures were taken in 2022 and the EU decided in 2023 to increase the ambition of its renewables and energy efficiency.
