IATA Zero net CO2 emissions in 2050

Statement from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the resolution approved at its 77th Annual General Assembly to achieve zero net CO2 _emissions by 2050. It is intended to reduce a total of 21.2 gigatons of carbon by 2050. The strategy consists of reducing the greatest amount of CO₂ Possible from industry solutions such as sustainable aviation fuels, state-of-the-art aeronautical technology, more efficient operations and infrastructure, and the development of new “zero-emission” energy sources, such as electric power and hydrogen. Any emissions that cannot be removed at source will be removed through other alternatives, such as carbon capture and storage and credible offset schemes. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Carbon Reduction and Offsetting Plan for International Aviation (CORSIA) will help stabilize international emissions at 2019 levels in the short and medium term.
