2020 Report of the Energy and Sustainability Observatory

The BP Chair in Energy and Sustainability highlights in this report the significant reduction in CO ₂ emissions from the electricity sector in 2019. It concludes that it has improved in practically all the sustainability indicators associated with consumption and emissions, due to the significant decrease in the use of coal for electricity production. Unlike previous years, this is not due to environmental factors, but to changes in the primary energy sources used, partly due to the increase in the final prices of natural gas and oil derivatives The transport sector increased its demand of energy, with road transport being the one with the highest growth in demand.
