What are e-fuels: zero-emission gasoline?

Electric or synthetic fuels are hydrocarbons that are not obtained from oil, but are manufactured by extracting CO₂ from the atmosphere.

Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas, originate from the remains of ancient plants and animals subjected to heat and pressure for millions of years.
In the last century, humans have dug up this prehistoric carbon and burned it relentlessly to produce electricity, heating, transportation, and run industry.
