This is how climate change affects European agriculture

Climate change is also attacking European agriculture.

According to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA), agricultural and livestock production is expected to decline and even have to be abandoned in some parts of Europe’s southern and Mediterranean regions due to the increasing negative impacts of climate change.

In total, the European Union’s agricultural sector could lose up to 16% of its income by 2050.

Climate impacts have already led to greater crop poverty and higher production costs, affecting the price, quantity and quality of farmed products in some parts of Europe.

Agricultural land accounts for 40% of the total land in the European Union.

Agriculture and food-related industries and services provide more than 44 million jobs in the EU and 22 million people work directly in the sector.

The agricultural sector also plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 10% of all greenhouse gases in the European Union.
