World must shut down coal plants 4.5 times faster to curb climate change

Humanity must shut down coal-fired power plants about 4.5 times faster than now to meet the Paris Agreement’s climate goal of limiting global warming to between 1.5 and 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

This is reflected in the ninth annual study on coal plants led by Global Energy Monitor, an organization based in San Francisco (United States) dedicated to analyzing the international energy landscape related to fossil fuel projects (coal, gas and oil) and their relationship with the environment and climate change.
