The Wind Energy Business Association positively values the Government’s proposal to promote offshore wind energy

The Wind Business Association (AEE) has valued “positively” the roadmap approved this Friday by the Government for the development of offshore wind and marine energy in Spain, with the aim of reaching up to three gigawatts (GW) of floating wind in 2030.

As reported in a statement by the sectoral organization, after a “first analysis” of the plans of the Executive, the sector values “with optimism” its approval. However, he has also indicated that there are aspects that need to be “accelerated” and others that remain “pending to be addressed soon”.

PREPA considers that it is necessary to accelerate “to the maximum” the update of the new regulatory framework to the first half of 2022 in order to meet the objectives of the roadmap, which the development deadlines for offshore wind projects is about seven years.

“Spain can lead the development of this technology thanks to its industrial capacity, its geographical position and its competitiveness. The development of floating offshore wind takes advantage of new sites far from the coast, with capacity factors that exceed 4,000 equivalent hours, and that allow a decrease in visual and environmental impact, “said the sector group.

The strategy designed by the cabinet led by Teresa Ribera contains 20 lines of action with the aim of reaching between one and three GW of floating offshore wind power by 2030 – up to 40% of the EU target by the end of the decade – and up to 60 MW of other offshore energies in the pre-commercial phase, like those of the waves or the tides.

Among other measures, at least 200 million euros will be enabled until 2023 and the needs of the port infrastructure will be evaluated, where 500 to 1,000 million euros must be invested to cover the new logistics needs.
