The UAE’s accession to the BRICS: a growing role for the Global South

The idea of the Global South is increasingly linked to the individual or collective efforts of developing countries to actively influence international outcomes and their demands for more equitable participation in decision-making processes on a global scale.

One of the main conclusions drawn during the 10th Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate (ADSD), convened by the Emirates Policy Center in November 2023, was that the Global South is now playing an increasingly important role on the world stage, directly or indirectly affecting the balance between the great powers, mainly through the role of the middle powers.
