CO2 QUOTE Closing from 22-10-2026 85,18 €/T

The Government will approve the carbon footprint decree before the end of the year

The Balearic Government will approve the carbon footprint registration decree before the end of the year, as announced on Tuesday by the Vice President and Minister of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, Juan Pedro Yllanes.

It is a regulation aimed at reducing CO 2 emissions and “will allow large and medium-sized companies to be involved” in the decarbonization process.

Yllanes has made these statements in response to a question from the deputy of Cs Jesús Méndez during the plenary session of the Parlament, regarding the needs of CO 2 quotas necessary for the generation of energy in the Balearic Islands.

The Minister explained that CO 2 emissions, “currently and as electricity production works in the Balearic Islands, are absolutely necessary”. However, they are “worrying” both for health reasons, climate change and “because they make the electricity bill more expensive.”

“It seems clear that what we have to do is insist on the route we have to decarbonize the economy,” said Yllanes, who added that with measures such as the closure of groups in Es Murterar or the reduction of hours at the Mahón plant emissions have been significantly reduced.

The vice president also underlined that the Menorca cable “has been in operation for almost a year now” and the third Ibiza-Formentera cable has already begun work on land.

For his part, Méndez has warned that the current dependency “endangers any purpose of energy sovereignty” in the Balearic Islands and highlights the “vulnerability” of the Islands.
