The Government lowers the rate for facilities and airlines registered in the Registry of CO ₂ emissions by €50 and

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition has approved a ministerial order that lowers the annual account maintenance fee for owners of facilities or air operators registered in the Registry that regulates the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission rights trading system.

According to the Ministerial Order that comes into force this Wednesday after its publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the Ministry rewards the least GHG issuing entities, since the account maintenance fee, which until 2019 was 150 euros for all facilities, from 2020 will be 100 euros for facilities or air operators with verified emissions less than 25,000 tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) and it will remain, however, at 150 euros, for those that emit that volume or exceed it.

In addition, with the registration will be paid 0.004 euros instead of 0.005 euros so far per ton of CO2 registered in the account up to a maximum of 12,000 euros per account and year.

In total, operators of facilities or air operators will have to pay EUR 500 for account opening; 150 or 100 euros for basin maintenance and 0.004 per ton of CO2 registered.

Meanwhile, the basin of personal assets must contribute 700 euros with the opening of the basin and 250 euros for basin maintenance. In the case of trading accounts, account opening is set at 700 euros and 1,000 euros for account maintenance.

In the case of external platform accounts and delivery accounts by auction, they must contribute 1,000 euros with the opening of an account and another 1,000 euros for account maintenance.

The purpose of the payment of these fees is to maintain the Union Register in the Spanish area. This Union Register aims to record the accounts for the issuance, ownership, transfer and cancellation of allowances to ensure the proper functioning of the GHG Emissions Trading System in the EU.

With these amounts, the management of the service is maintained exclusively with the criteria of efficiency and economy.
