The European Commission sets rules to apply the adjustment of the payment for the carbon emitted

The European Commission (EC) approved on Thursday the rules to apply the Border Carbon Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which seeks that European companies subject to the bloc’s climate rules and that have to pay for their CO₂ emission rights are not at a disadvantage compared to their rivals from third countries with more lax climate requirements.

The application of the transitional phase of the CBAM will begin on October 1 and will last until the end of 2025.
