The Consell de Mallorca approves two subsidies so that the municipalities “advance in the fight against climate change”

The Executive Council of the Consell de Mallorca has approved two new calls for grants within the framework of the ‘Pacte de Batles i Batlesses per al Clima i l’Energia’ for municipalities to “advance in the fight against climate change” and that, among other aspects, contemplates reducing polluting emissions, improving sustainability and lowering energy and water consumption.

In statements to the media, the island’s Minister of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Jaume Alzamora, has specified that the first call for grants has a budget of 1.2 million euros and will allow the municipalities of the Island to carry out the actions included in their Action Plan for Sustainable Energy and Climate (Paesc) or the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy (Paes).

As he explained, the municipalities of Mallorca, except Palma, that have formally adhered to the ‘Pacte de Batles i Batlesses’ and that have a Paesc or Paes already approved are eligible for the aid line. The expenses must have been carried out between January 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020 and the amount of the subsidy for each municipality is established based on the population of the municipality.

In more concrete terms, the call considers “priority” the implementation or renewal of the management and accounting service of energy supplies, as well as water. With regard to the improvement of the control system, it consists of implementing “an integrated control system that allows analyzing and reporting if there is an increase in unnecessary consumption”.

On the other hand, the Executive Council has approved another call for grants for other actions related to the ‘Pacte de Batles i Batlesses’ and, in this case, will consist of financing the Paesc of those municipalities that do not yet have it. The population may not exceed 35,000.

Likewise, the 300,000 euros allocated to this call can also finance the management and accounting of municipal energy supplies for a maximum period of one year.
