Spain cut its emissions into the atmosphere by 7.5% in 2023 thanks to renewables

The boom in renewable energies will allow this year to close this year with an all-time low of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, 271.6 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (MtCO2-eq), 7.5% less than last year, when 283.8 MtCO2-eq were recorded. It is a “positive result” in the progress towards the decarbonisation of the Spanish economy and in the fight against climate change, according to a study by the Basque Centre for Cloimate Change (BC3) and the Observatory of Energy Transition and Climate Action (OTEA).
