Spain makes history and will produce more than half of its electricity with renewables this year for the first time

The boom in new renewable plants pushes the national electricity system to exceed the threshold of 50% green generation so far in 2023 and leaves the milestone of exceeding it in a full year just one step away.

Spain has embarked in recent years on a massive rollout of new renewable plants and the green revolution is causing a jolt in the country’s electricity production. The green avalanche will make it possible for the Spanish electricity system to achieve a historic milestone this year and for the first time will generate more than half of all its energy with renewable technology installations, surpassing the sum of nuclear, gas-fired power plants and coal-fired plants.
