Spain asks the European Commission for an ambitious climate target for 2040

Spain is one of the 11 member states that have signed a letter calling for concrete actions to reduce emissions that reaffirm the EU as a global leader and send a strong political signal to other major emitters.

Spain, along with Germany, France, Portugal, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, Finland, Luxembourg, Ireland and Bulgaria, have sent a letter to the European Commission to underline that “the need for ambitious global climate action has never been more evident than at this time. 2023 turned out to be the warmest year on record, and global warming will intensify a host of adverse effects that will put the world’s well-being and security at risk.”
