Spain moves towards nuclear blackout and rules out delaying plant closures

The Government refuses to extend the life of the plants and will not change the calendar of staggered closures between 2027 and 2035 in the next version of the National Energy and Climate Plan

The Government remains firm in its position not to extend the life of nuclear power plants any further. The large electricity companies agreed in 2019 with Enresa, the public company in charge of radioactive waste, a calendar for the progressive closure of all reactors that will start in 2027 and culminate in 2035 with the total nuclear blackout. And that is the roadmap that the Executive of Pedro Sánchez defends without fissures … and on which it will be up to decide in any case to an eventual new Government that comes out of the general elections at the end of the year.
