Ribera announces that the Government will shortly approve the national floating photovoltaic strategy

The fourth Vice President of the Government and Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, has announced that in a few days the National Floating Photovoltaic Strategy can be approved and that solar energy is a great force for transformation in the country.

For Ribera, the solar sector is promising, it has a lot of potential and a long way to go between now and 2050, as recognized by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The experience of photovoltaics, which is service, industry and many other things, is “key” to the energy transition, he said. Ribera has made these statements during the act of the Spanish Photovoltaic Union, which celebrates the first day of the Solar Forum.

The person in charge of Ecological Transition has also talked about how important the renewable auctions held today are, in which 3,123 MW of power have been awarded, 95% of the power auctioned, at an average price of 30.56 euros per MWh, 15% of that marked by the wholesale electricity market and 60% lower than the average futures price for the next five years.

It has also drawn attention to the changes introduced, such as a specific auction for small solar plants, a demand that UNEF has been requesting for some time.

In addition, he added that the Government aspires to reach 500,000 solar roofs and 1,200 energy communities within two years.

For his part, the president of the Spanish Photovoltaic Union, Rafael Benjumea, has shown the need to speed up the administrative processes in order to be able to finish the projects within the planned deadlines, on the one hand, and achieve sufficient legal certainty to be able to continue with the contracting of PPAs.

DISABLE PRESENT CHALLENGES

On his side, Jose Donoso, general director of UNEF, who has been in charge of opening the event, has made it clear that new challenges have arisen this year that require everyone’s collaboration. One is the social protest that in some rural areas of Spain has awakened the necessary renewable deployment to meet the objectives included in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC); another is the vertiginous increase in the final prices of electricity in recent months.

For Donoso, it is important to mobilize and deactivate these challenges “to turn them into opportunities.” For this reason, he requested the collaboration of the entire sector and thanked that the Association already has more than 600 associated companies.

“We must work for transparency and environmental and social excellence as well as social responsibility through dialogue with local communities. Photovoltaics is the cleanest, cheapest and most environmentally friendly energy that can help lower prices, combat climate change and democratize the use of energy”, he pointed out.
