State Pact against the Climate Emergency: why is it necessary and what measures is it taking shape?

The Government is working to reach a major agreement that will allow it to respond, in an effective, coordinated and sustained manner, to the challenge that climate change poses for Spain, one of the countries most vulnerable to droughts, fires and floods.

On 1 September, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, presented the proposal for a State Pact against the Climate Emergency that involves civil society, workers and entrepreneurs, political forces and all the competent administrations. The Executive frames this initiative in the active policy that it has been developing in this area since 2018, with actions such as the declaration of climate emergency, the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law and the investments included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The government’s proposal, defined by an inter-ministerial commission, arises after a process of consultation, listening and dialogue and will be enriched until the end of 2025 with the contributions of all the actors involved.
