Negotiators and activists call in Bonn for a gradual goodbye to fossil fuels

Several participants at the preparatory meeting for COP 28 in Bonn, including government envoys and activists such as Sweden’s Greta Thunberg, today called for a push to phase out fossil fuels.

“What we decide now will determine the rest of the future of humanity,” urged the well-known climate activist at a press conference in the western city, in which she asserted that it is a “matter of life and death.” For global warming not to exceed the limit of 1.5 degrees Celsius, it is essential that fossil fuels are abandoned “quickly and equitably,” said Thunberg, since it is the countries “most responsible for the crisis” that must take the initiative.
