Nature-based solutions (NBS): a niche market that soars in the heat of green policies

The non-financial reporting to which companies in Europe are obliged pushes the search for sustainable, but profitable alternatives.

In 2018, the European Union launched a regulation that obliged companies to submit Non-Financial Reports, which explain their plans and strategies in social responsibility. This has led to the multiplication of sustainable initiatives that seek to protect the environment, but without forgetting business profitability. Many of them are already known as defined by the European Commission: SbN, “Nature-based solutions”. They must not only be cost-effective, they must also provide environmental, social and economic benefits, and help build resilience. According to the study carried out by the Observatory of the Fundación Repsol Chair of Energy Transition, it is estimated that NBS can contribute up to 37% of the mitigation of emissions necessary to limit global warming to 2ºC in 2030.
