Greenhouse gases rise in the US for the first time in two years due to heating and cryptocurrencies

• Emissions grow by 2.4% in 2025, above GDP, according to a report by the consulting firm Rhodium Group.
• The study points out that the rebound does not yet reflect the changes implemented by the Trump administration, which has abandoned environmental policies.
U.S. greenhouse gas emissions rose for the first time in two years and at a faster pace than the economy’s growth, up 2.4% from 1.9% in 2025, driven largely by increased demand from the power sector and the use of fuel to heat buildings. a report from Rhodium Group showed on Tuesday.

The research firm estimated that the global increase was due to increased emissions from the direct use of fuel to heat buildings, which increased by 6.8% from the previous year, and 3.8% of emissions from the electricity sector due to the increase in coal-fired generation to meet the demand of data centers and bitcoin mining.
