Energy saving certificates have prevented the emission of half a million tonnes ofCO2 per year

The Third Vice-President and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, has reported that the implementation of the Ministry’s Energy Savings Certificate (EAC) system has saved a total of 2 TWh of final energy and has avoided emitting half a million tonnes of CO₂ in 2024, which is equivalent to 1% of the annual emissions of Spanish industry. According to the balance sheet carried out by Miteco, the more than 1,200 energy efficiency actions carried out have managed to save a total of 2 TWh of final energy, the equivalent of the monthly electricity consumption of the Community of Madrid, which translates into economic savings for the participants in the system of 230 million euros; and have avoided emitting half a million tons of CO₂.” These results have a direct impact on the reduction of the bill of citizens and companies, improving their purchasing power and competitiveness. We are demonstrating, once again, that the competitiveness-decarbonisation binomial that we have been implementing works”, stressed the third vice-president, Sara Aagesen. Of the total of 1,200 applications (which were grouped into 755) submitted in 2024, the Ministry has already certified 88%, which shows the capacity of the CAE system as a “catalyst for the marketing of energy products and services for small consumers, companies and large industries”, says the minister.
