The Earth is experiencing a drastic increase in temperature, reaching an average increase of 1.2°C since the pre-industrial era. Record-breaking heat waves with temperatures above 45°C are affecting the United States, Europe and Asia, causing water shortages, power outages and uncontrollable fires. In 2023, polar melting and historically high sea temperatures have reached alarming levels. The State of the Climate Report 2023, by William J Ripple and others, underscores the gravity of the situation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has recently published the first part of its sixth assessment report, which affirms the important contribution of human activity to global warming. Despite varying emissions scenarios, global warming is projected to reach 1.5°C by the early 2030s, displacing approximately 1 billion people for each additional degree of warming.
