Europe moves towards a single carbon price

News of a potential linkage between the UK and European Union (EU) carbon emission permitting markets would have an impact on British industry.
Last Thursday, an open letter signed by 50 companies and associations belonging to the British energy and industrial sectors was published, in which they welcomed “the commitment of the EU and the United Kingdom to conclude negotiations on the linking of their respective Carbon Trading Systems (ETS) before the next EU-UK Summit”. Brussels and London began formally negotiating a linking of the two carbon markets in January. The letter encourages the two sides to reach an agreement ahead of the next EU-UK summit scheduled for July 13.
