Europe already has its “carbon tariff” ready: a new green tax that will affect the entire industry

Green taxation can be easily summarized: companies that pollute more will pay more taxes. It is a strategy for which the European Union has been working for years. It has not yet started to be implemented, but that is close to changing since the adoption of Regulation 2023/956.

The “carbon tariff” is coming. In May this year, the European Parliament approved the ‘Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism’ (MAFC), which sets prices based on the carbon produced by imported materials. It is a tariff that will be calculated based on CO₂ emissions and is framed as one of the main measures to implement the European Green Deal.
