Europe facing the environmental crisis: progress in emissions, but nature in retreat

The latest report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) reveals progress in reducing emissions and pollution, although it warns of the degradation of nature and the loss of biodiversity.
The State of the Environment report, published by the EEA, shows progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality, as well as in the use of renewable energies, which have doubled their share since 2005. It also highlights progress in recycling, resource efficiency and in the promotion of green innovation, environmental employment and sustainable finance. However, the document warns that the overall state of the European environment is not favourable: nature degradation, overexploitation and biodiversity loss continue to advance, while climate change accelerates and poses serious risks to economic prosperity, security and quality of life in Europe.
