EU reduces CO₂ emissions almost to Covid-19 outbreak levels

They experience the largest year-on-year decline since the third quarter of 2020

Greenhouse gas emissions from economic sectors in the EU fell in the second quarter of this year to levels not seen in almost three years, following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and also experienced the largest year-on-year decline since the third quarter of 2020. According to Eurostat data released on Tuesday, emissions were 820.8 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent between April and June this year, the lowest figure since the third quarter of 2020, which was 818.4 million.
