The EU reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 4% in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2024, greenhouse gas emissions from the European Union economy were estimated at 894 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) equivalent, a decrease of 4% compared to the same quarter of 2023, when they were 931 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. according to data published by Eurostat, the EU statistics office.

This reduction in emissions into the atmosphere occurred without having reduced economic activity.
The EU’s gross domestic product (GDP) remained broadly stable, registering only a small increase of 0.3% in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the same quarter of 2023.
