Global Ocean Conservation Agreement Enters Into Force

Tomorrow will mark a historic milestone for ocean conservation with the entry into force of the Agreement on the Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).

This landmark agreement, the result of more than a decade of international collaboration, represents a decisive step towards safeguarding marine ecosystems and tackling the urgent threats posed by climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. The European Union and Member States have played a central role in promoting this agreement, leading the BBNJ Deal High Ambition Coalition, which brings together more than 40 nations committed to bold, science-based ocean protection.
