Time is running out: Most countries will miss deadline to submit climate plans

Time is running out and the race against time to stop global warming and save the planet is slowing down: tomorrow, Monday 10 February, the deadline for the signatory countries of the Paris Agreement to present their new climate plans to the United Nations will end, but less than a dozen have done so so far. These are the United States, Switzerland, Brazil, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and recently also the United Kingdom and Uruguay, with specific national emission reduction targets for 2035. These countries account for 16 percent of global emissions. More than 150 countries, including the European Union, the great locomotive of global climate action, will be pending for presentation, foreseeably throughout the year. Nationally determined contributions, or NDCs, are part of “crucial plans” that countries have to submit, according to UN sources.
