A new report by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), released on Monday 23, revealed important gaps in the understanding of how the oceans absorb and store carbon, a key piece of data for climate prediction.
“The ocean is one of our greatest climate allies, absorbing a large part of the carbon we emit. However, we still need to have a full understanding of how this natural defense works or how long it can last,” said Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO.
