The Government will contribute 600 million euros to the electro-intensive industry in 2025 to offset CO2 emissions

Since 2019, the Government has allocated nearly 900 million euros to offset the costs of CO2 emissions, going from six million euros in 2018 to 300 million euros this year.

The Ministry of Industry and Tourism will dedicate 600 million euros in 2025 to the compensation mechanism for the costs of indirect greenhouse gas emissions, which is twice as much as this year. This aid programme is aimed at companies in certain industrial sectors and sub-sectors that are considered to be exposed to a significant risk of “carbon leakage”.
This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the closing of the UGT-FICA Congress held in Malaga, pointing out that it is a decision “of enormous significance” and an effort that he wants to maintain in the coming years. He pointed out that with this the Government of Spain “wants to continue helping the electro-intensive industry in the energy transition, while ensuring its competitiveness, production and industrial employment in the country”. Since 2019, the Government has allocated nearly 900 million euros to offset the costs of CO₂ emissions, going from six million euros in 2018 to 300 million euros this year, which have benefited more than 200 electro-intensive companies.
