EU Scientific Advisory Board suggests rewarding those who removeCO2 from the air

The European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change on Friday stressed the need for the EU to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and suggested creating a system that rewards those who remove that carbon dioxide.

“We have to absorb more than we emit,” said the chairman of the Advisory Board, German economist and professor at the Technical University of Berlin Ottmar Edenhofer, at a press conference at the presentation of the report “Increasing carbon dioxide removal: recommendations for rapid and sustainable enlargement in the EU”. The analysis by this independent platform of 50 experts created as part of the European Climate Law to advise the EU executive comes a week before the European Commission presents its Clean Industry Plan, which aims to lay the roadmap for reindustrialising the EU while continuing decarbonisation towards climate neutrality by 2050.
