Global warming is out of control, and a new study confirms it

A team of researchers reveals that the planet’s temperature is rising faster than estimated, and they warn of irreversible consequences if urgent action is not taken.

A recent study led by renowned climatologist James Hansen of Columbia University revealed that global warming is occurring at a significantly faster rate than previously estimated. According to the analysis, published in the journal Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development, the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 2°C above pre-industrial levels is now unattainable. Hansen claimed that this limit, set in the 2015 Paris Agreement, is “dead” due to the continued increase in the use of fossil fuels globally. The report highlights that global warming could reach 2°C by 2045, unless drastic measures such as solar geoengineering are implemented. This finding, which is at the high end of conventional scientific estimates, generated concern among experts, who warn of an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events and an increased risk of surpassing critical climate tipping points.
