How to sabotage 30-year-old climate action in 10 days: “Trump’s withdrawal from environmental agreements is a colossal own goal that leaves the US less secure and prosperous”

The president of the United States deals a blow to the international community with the withdrawal of the IPCC and the Framework Convention on Climate Change in other environmental organizations. The largest historical emitter of CO₂ – currently surpassed by China – is willing to boycott any progress from the outside, as already happened at the Climate Summit in Brazil

The U.S. withdrawal from 66 international organizations — including the Framework Convention on Climate Change, the IPCC group of climate scientists, the intergovernmental biodiversity platform, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) — has been interpreted as an attempt by the Trump administration to sabotage climate action over the past 30 years and all that has come since the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.

A year after his arrival at the White House, on the verge of consummating the announced exit from the Paris Agreement on January 20, the U.S. president has launched his anathema against “redundant, poorly managed, unnecessary, costly, ineffective institutions instrumentalized by actors who pursue objectives opposed to ours or that threaten sovereignty, the freedoms and prosperity of our nation.”
