China approves new restrictions on graphite and other critical minerals

China has recently announced the imposition of export restrictions on certain graphite products in a bid to protect its national security and control the supply of critical minerals.

This move becomes relevant because China is the world’s leading producer and exporter of graphite, an essential substance in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries.

The new regulations come in response to challenges related to its dominance in global manufacturing, and follows an earlier announcement in July that imposed similar restrictions on the export of gallium and germanium products, critical components in the manufacture of computer chips and other electronic devices.
