Renewable energy boom, war with energy companies and dozens of laws: balance of Ribera’s energy policy

The plan to close the nuclear plants, the end of the sun tax and the energy crisis due to the war in Ukraine have marked these turbulent years.

Just five years ago, in June 2018, the current third vice president, Teresa Ribera, took office as Minister for the Ecological Transition. Since then, the pandemic, the Russian invasion of European territory, the energy crisis and climate policies have marked his legislative period.
Before COVID, the Government proposed to agree with the electricity companies a schedule for the closure of nuclear power plants, which was sealed in 2019, and eliminate the sun tax, a measure that had clogged self-consumption in Spain.
