Aluminium is transformed: The green revolution of an essential material

The aluminum industry is adopting innovative solutions to reduce its environmental impact and move towards decarbonization.
According to the International Aluminum Institute, the sector emits about 1.1 billion tons of greenhouse gases annually.
However, through electrification, the reduction of direct emissions and the commitment to recycling, aluminium is expected to play a central role in the energy transition.
Gonzalo de Olabarria, secretary general of the Spanish Aluminium Association, highlights that the industry has already managed to reduce its emissions by 55% since 1990, with new technologies and strategies under development to continue this trend.
