The European Parliament has recently called for a timetable explaining how and when fossil fuels will be abandoned and urges the withdrawal of public aid before COP31, which will take place in the Turkish town of Antalya from 9 to 20 November.
Fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal must be abandoned and a date must be set for this.
That is the request that the European Parliament made to the European Union in the run-up to COP31. They urge that a timetable be defined to move away from the use of fossil fuels and is committed to leading international negotiations with the aim of accelerating the energy transition. The resolution calls for precise deadlines to progressively reduce production and to eliminate the public aid provided to them. The debate affects the fight against global warming, but also energy security. Europe is exposed to geopolitical tensions due to this cause and to being a victim of supply disruptions. The Antalya summit will test this ambition for decarbonisation. The European Parliament calls for the European Union to have a clear strategy aimed at energy autonomy and to provide financing for the most vulnerable countries.
