Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Sunday in front of BRICS leaders that the use of technology and critical minerals as geopolitical weapons could fracture the cohesion of the bloc, in the midst of a race for global technological development.
“The use of technology and critical minerals as weapons can become an obstacle to our shared progress. For this reason, we have emphasized inclusivity in adopting technology,” Modi said in his speech during the leaders’ plenary session that closes the bulk of the summit in New Delhi.
On Saturday, the leaders of the enlarged bloc will unanimously approve the New Delhi Declaration, in which they created a common front to demand “reliable, diversified, resilient, equitable and sustainable” supply chains that guarantee added value in resource-rich countries.
