China offers to lead the technological take-off and development of AI in the countries

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday offered China’s support to accelerate the technological and industrial development of BRICS countries with special emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI), an area for which Beijing is in a close battle with the United States. Xi made the proposal during his speech at the second and final session of the BRICS leaders’ summit being held this weekend in New Delhi, where the Chinese leader proposed five cooperation initiatives to boost the growth of the so-called Global South in the fields of AI, trade and investment, digital industry, smart manufacturing and talent development, according to the official Xinhua news agency. Among the offers of the leader of the world’s second-largest economy are to help the bloc’s countries implement open language models that allow the establishment of an “open and inclusive” AI zone for the BRICS, build smart factories, enable a cloud platform for the digital industry of the bloc members and train young talents in innovation and advanced technology.
